Very very nice deck! This deck not only sounds great for record and playback, but it also looks gorgeous! It has dolby B and C, along with HXPro. I typically don't use dolby nr, and don't with this deck. Works beautifully still, after all this time.

The JVC TD-V711 is among the last JVC decks built to ultra high standards in every way. With its lovely brushed metal faceplate, wood side panels, an extra large vacuum florescent display and silky-smooth controls, it’s clearly a formidable deck! Its best feature is an ultra quiet direct drive mechanism with one of the lowest wow/flutter specs of any maker. Other above-and-beyond design elements include: a power supply board that is physically separated from audio circuits and the shortest possible audio signal path (its ALPS Blue Velvet input potentiometer and 3 source switches are cleverly positioned at the rear, closest to the input jacks, rather than residing in the front panel circuitry). There's even separate amplifiers so Dolby processors are completely out of circuit when not in use. Most interesting is the use of different head materials for play (Amorphous) and Record (Sendust Alloy). Heads are also fully discrete, meaning record and playback heads can be adjusted separately rather than being epoxied together which is the case in 99% of other 3 headers. Well, what does all this amount to? Simply that it sounds really good, has low noise and a rich, spacious tonal quality with exceptional bass reproduction. My only criticism is the unit's recording EQ seems to accentuate high frequencies, which can be a challenge on certain sources, vinyl in particular. I have no doubt this is more a testament to what is lacking in my turntable/cartridge than the deck, but something to be aware of. Other things to watch out for: like all the JVC direct drive decks, there are two SMD capacitors that fail on the motor board, causing the speed to go out of whack (google it). Once those were replaced, it has been totally reliable.
